please dont leave me!

i LOVE my hair! and i dont know how iam gonna be able to live without them!
my chemo starts on march 21st! i have no idea whats gonna happen because i decided not to google chemo cause of the twitch i see on peoples faces when i tell them im gonna have chemo..
but what i do know is that im gonna lose my hair and fine! theyl grow back! but they wont be the same! theyl be all curly!
and also!i got to know that i might even lose my eye lashes and eye brows! is that true?? :/
my reports came after my surgery..and the reports are perfect! no trace of cancer cells anywhere but the doctors recommended chemo for precaution sake! so i dunno how strong its gonna be..there are gonna be 6cycles..one after every 3 weeeks!

i think its high time and i should be prepared for it! so how bad is it?? how bad is chemo??

Paul, Beth threw a punch at your cancer.
Laurie, Beth sent you a prayer.
Paul sent you a hug.

Rashi,
If you are having 5FU, you probably won’t lose any hair. It all depends on what you are gtting and for how long. The best thing I can tell you it to see a dentist NOW to protect your teeth. Chemo for colo/rectal cancer affects the teeth and mouth. I wish someone would have told me that…I am losing all my teeth and will have to get dentures within the year.

Don’t think about the bad, thing about the good. If you do lose your hair, the American Cancer Society has a Look Good/Feel Better program that offers you free wigs, make up and application lessons, etc.
Everyone is different.

I wish you the best. From your birthday, I see you are young and I know you are scared. Will you have a permamanent colostomy? I have one and love it actually. Only thing I miss is my bathroom reading time. I have a website I can give you to go to that will answer every ostomy question you have…and there are good people there. It is ostomates.org

I will friend you. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Hugs

heyi rainy! yes i have a permanent colostomy..and i dont thin i love it yet :P and yes i have lots of qustions regarding it!
will check out the site yu mentioned or ask yu..
thanks!
love.!

Rashi, I too will most likely have to have Chemo as a precaution. But my Surgeon told me my hair will probably stay. I have to have surgery on March 27th and from the Ct it looks like my cancer is localized and no lymph node involvement. Chemo is different for everyone My father had Lukemia and he had chemo his hair came back Jet black and thick. My surgeon also did not lie to me she told me it would make me sick. But because we are so young they want to ensure that this will not come back.Hugs and Prayers Beth

hi beth! my surgeon told me that il be definitely lose my hair..soooo :/
but im still holding up! ill get a wig and the kinda hair i could never have :P
lets see how chemo treats me!
love!

Glad that the surgery was a success for you. Some chemos are different, so may or may not happen, but you are still are a beautifull young woman either way. Good luck!

thanx alot paul! your concern means alot!
take care!

Haven’t had that type of chemo before, but from what I’ve read, hair loss is not a common side effect. I did FOLFOX and didn’t lose any hair, so not all treatments have that effect. I’ll be hoping that this will be the case for you! Keep us posted on how it goes-Ann

Hi!

Thank you for adding me to the list of those you support. I appreciate it!

I see that you’re going to take Xeloda. This is a chemo pill. I was on it as part of my treatment and I never lost my hair. My neighbor is on it, too, and her hair looks great! My primary side-effects from Xeloda were that I was nauseous, my mouth was sensitive to hot and cold, and my fingernails had black stripes going from cuticle to tip. Of all the chemos out there, Xeloda seems to be one with.comparatively benign side-effects.

I hope this helps. I have been and will be praying for you. And as a word of encouragement, I had my two-years-post-treatment colonoscopy and EUS this morning. They found one small polyp, but I appear to remain cancer-free, thank God This CAN be beat!

Love and hugs and prayers,

Danean

 thanx danean!
i had xeloda during my radiation therapy..so yeah..it wasnt as bad! but they are gonna give me another chemo medicine with xeloda this time!
everybodys telling me its different for different people! lets see how it effects me!
love!

Hi Rashi:

Chemo is scary and I hope your beautiful hair stays put. I know different chemo drugs cause different side effects. They should give you information and perhaps even have you take a chemo class.
Hugs and prayers,

Dear rashi,
Firstly..I cannot tellmyou how much I admire you..you are very brave even if you don’t feel that wayanddontwant tone brave! I know how you feel …but you are…I alsowantyou to know that this really sucks as you are so young…how unfair and just off the hook terrible it is! On the other side..and I know sometimes this is not much consolation…you have your life ..you are beautiful inside and out….you have been like a piece of silver…rubbed clean and are shiny as a result of this experience…even if you didn’t choose it…these are the ones that test us the most…as a teacher once said..the best students get the hardest lessons….we must be super smart? But nothing will be wasted on you…you will come thru this…don’t worry about your hair even if you lose some…my hair came back the same.. A little curler to start but after about a year it is the same…you may not lose any….a day at a time is how you have to take these things..know that all of us are here and our prayers surround you…we have your back and we will be here every step of the way..love and blessings, Lori in AZ

Hey there, Rashi! So, Obviously I’ve never experienced this, but I will tell you what I’ve seen happen to my loved ones after they went through chemo/radiation treatments with regards to hair loss.

Ooh- but first – congratulations on the clear scans! That’s fab news! Really great!

I’ve found that there is no way to really predict how your hair will come back – I have one friend who went from a straight-haired brunette to a curly-headed blonde, I have seen it return pretty close to normal, or completely different in terms of texture and thickness… and, yes, sometimes you will lose your eyebrows and your eyelashes… but sometimes you don’t.

Either way – you are so beautiful that with or without hair, with or without eyebrows/eyelashes – that doesn’t change. Beauty radiates from the inside out. I have never met one person who I haven’t found something beautiful in – we are all G-d’s creatures, and from what I’ve seen, his track record is pretty good as far as creating precious, beautiful beings.

You may react differently to a given therapy than another person receiving the same therapy. It really depends. I suggest you keep a log- perhaps track how you’re feeling a few days before you start treatment, and then log changes accordingly – but not just bad side effects (there may not be any, or there may be very few)- but also things that don’t change. Keep it throughout the course of your treatment. If things are changing too much, you can have this written record to talk to your oncologist about, and he or she may be able to tweak your treatments accordingly.

With Cancer, I like to err on the side of caution, so I’m glad to hear they are taking the precaution and starting you on therapy. I don’t like to give cancer an ounce or an edge.

You can do this, Rashi. We’re all behind you.

BIGHUGS

Rashi I just underwent chemo with xeloda and except for minimal diarrea and minor fatigue had no other symptons. Everyon is different and it depends on your body. So chill, it might not be that bad after all.

almost done!

first of all i want to thank all yu guys who replied to my last blog and supported and prayed for me.! it meant the world to me!

i have come back home today after my surgery!
yes.its done!
they have taken out my rectum… and well…colostomy was unavoidable…so..have that as well!
but im not sad anymore! i realized i have my family and my friends and they have been so caring and supportive.. especially my mother! i have to be strong for her if not myself!

my life style is gonna change now..and i guess so am i…! it feels like a new birth.. small things that used to matter earlier dont matter anymore cause after going through so much you realize there are so many more important things in life than keep crying over petite issues.!

and i cant wait to recover and start working .and yes. find a guy myself :P

i love my life.!

Wonderful! So happy to hear your are doing well! You are brave! Sending positive healing thoughts! Onward!

Love your attitude! Your positive attitude will get you through the worst part. So nice to hear you have such great family support. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the different colostomy products. There are a lot out there. Glad you are home from the hospital!

sounds like you are doing great! :)

Congratulations on getting through surgery! I know the colostomy is a big change but a lot of people have them and once you adjust to it, it seems to be no big deal. I know a woman who does all kinds of sports and outdoor activities with one, doesn’t slow her down at all. Take it easy during recovery, and then you can jump back into life again! Hugs-Ann

So glad to hear you’re doing well! Awesome attitude, it’s inspiring! Keep us informed, would love to continue hearing how you’re doing.

Honestly I’m really impressed by your attitude towards the colostomy and life and what else may come! I hope you’ll recover fast and get back on track, as well as you’ll be able to keep that smile on your face.:)
